Carlos Chacón

Carlos Chacón Pérez (Madrid, 1977) holds a degree in Architecture from the ETSAM – UPM (Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, 2003) and a PhD in Architecture from the same school (2022), awarded with International Mention and the distinction of Sobresaliente Cum Laude, for the thesis "The Return of the Figurative Image to Architectural Matter at the End of the Twentieth Century. Herzog & de Meuron 1979–1999". He furthered his education with the Certificate in Botany from the 15th Master's Programme in Gardening and Landscape at the UPM School of Agronomy (2010) and with the Master's Degree in Advanced Architectural Projects at the ETSAM (2014), completed with Distinction.

As an architect, he collaborated with the office SMAO Sancho-Madridejos between 2001 and 2004 and joined the SelgasCano studio in 2005, where he served as Project Director from 2006 to 2010 and was Construction Director of the Plasencia Congress Centre. In 2008 he co-founded, together with José de Villar Martínez, the studio DVCH DeVillarCHacon, where he has been an active partner ever since. The studio has won awards in international ideas competitions such as the "Vegas Altas" Congress Centre in Villanueva de la Serena, the School of Music and Dance in Ciutadella, and the Park in Denia. In 2016 it opened an office in Mexico, with projects including the "Lomas de Sotelo" linear park in Mexico City, the Kinder Park in Mexicali and the Book Stalls in La Condesa; since 2020 it has been developing projects in Taiwan spanning landscape and urban space, housing, public buildings and art installations. His built work has received, among other distinctions, the S-Arch Award on two occasions, the Firenze Prize, the Award of the Madrid Institute of Architects (COAM), the Architecture MasterPrize and the Chicago Athenaeum Award, and has been published in more than twenty countries, featuring on the covers of Arquitectura Viva, a+t and The Plan, among others.

In academia, he has been an Adjunct Professor at the ETSAM – UPM since 2026, after serving as Adjunct Professor at Universidad Antonio de Nebrija in Madrid between 2023 and 2026 and as Associate Professor at Feng Chia University in Taiwan between 2018 and 2022. Since 2022 he has also held the position of International Chair Professor of Advanced Projects and Research at Tecnológico de Monterrey (Mexico), and between 2020 and 2022 he directed EuroLAB, an 80-ECTS international academic programme developed in Europe for TEC de Monterrey and Feng Chia through his own educational institute.
