José Ignacio Kempff Seleme

BIM & Digital · Computational Design Specialist · Bartlett UCL

José Ignacio Kempff Seleme is a Bolivian-Spanish architect and computational designer born and raised in Santa Cruz de la Sierra, Bolivia. He holds Spanish and European architectural licensure. He is currently pursuing an MSc in Architectural Computation at The Bartlett School of Architecture, University College London (UCL) — one of the world's most rigorous programmes in computational architecture.

His academic background includes a BSc in Foundations of Architecture at ETSAM, Universidad Politécnica de Madrid — where he also studied at the Technische Universität München — followed by a Master of Architecture (MArch) at ETSAM (Spanish and EU architectural licensure, NAAB accreditation, UPM), and a Postgraduate Diploma in BIM Modelling, Calculation and Simulation from the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC).

Before focusing on computational design, he worked in architecture studios in Bolivia, Germany, and Spain — including Ensamble Studio, Ingeser, and Quark (Sener Group). At MIAUTICS he works as a Computational Design Specialist (freelance, from December 2023), contributing to the team's instrumental methodology practice: building digital tools for the generation, simulation, and representation of design, architecture, and urbanism. He also mentors MArch students on workflows, communication, and advanced modelling techniques.

His research centres on computational design tools for the built environment at multiple scales — both as method and as application — with a particular focus on how AI and BIM converge in the design and construction process.

At MIAWS he serves as Module Coordinator for F5 (AI Simulation — building performance simulation, energy analysis, daylight modelling, structural AI, and automated result interpretation for design decision-making).
