John Porral

John Porral brings an engineering practitioner's rigour to MIAWS. His work is about performance — understanding how buildings behave under real conditions before they are built, and how fabrication systems can realise complex geometries with precision and efficiency. He has worked on building performance simulation for large-scale commercial and residential projects, and on robotic fabrication systems for architectural components that traditional manufacturing cannot produce.
His approach to AI in practice is systemic: the goal is not to add AI on top of existing workflows but to build it into the loop so that simulation results, fabrication constraints, and design decisions form a coherent, self-improving ecosystem. He has directed projects where AI integration across multiple tools — design, simulation, documentation, fabrication — produced practices that are genuinely more capable than the sum of their parts.
In March 2026 he co-led the intensive BAI 'IA & Arquitectura' workshop at the ETSAG (University of Granada) alongside Javier Guerrero, covering AI fundamentals, creative AI workflows, and design process for architecture students.
At MIAWS he serves as Module Coordinator for F9 (AI Integration — connecting all previous modules into a coherent, documented, and adaptive AI practice ecosystem; building the professional toolkit that students carry into practice from day one).
